Black Salt – Witches Salt

Considered to be indispensable from a wicca practitioner’s “arsenal”, Black Salt is and should be part of the category of protective elements but is also used as a base ingredient in curses, evil eye, cursing binding, cleansing and purification.

Black Salt, very powerful element of protection can be added to spell jars, protection sachets, poppets, altars, sprinkled in doorways and driveways, placed around workspace to keep away anger, frustration, anxiety.

Black Salt is eclectic magic which means there are variations in ingredients, quantities and use.

This particular receipt is a simpler one which I’ve founded on a reddit post and I literally felt a good vibe and compelled to post it here. So here you go.

To make Black Salt is need:

  • mortar and pestle
  • a cup of sea salt (but other types of salt work ok too, Himalaya Salt, quarry salt, as natural as possible)
  • ~ 10-15 teaspoons of ash from incense
  • ~ 8-10 teaspoons black pepper
  • Cascarilla (powder from eggshell) about 10-15 teaspoons

The quantities are estimated, depending on how much Black Salt you want to get.

Mixing ingredients:

  1. wash the eggshells very well, remove the air chamber, that semi-transparent membrane inside.
  2. dry the shells well (if you don’t want to wait too long, dry them in the oven but be careful not to burn or bake them).
  3. crush as much as you can with your hand and then in the mortar and pestle, try to grind them until they become powder. It is a sustained but worthwhile effort.
  4. add sea salt, ash, black pepper and blend well

I do not recommend ingestion of the final product. It is not toxic as you can tell from the ingredients and has exactly the taste you expect (salty and peppery).

Eggshell contains 90-95% calcite crystals (calcium carbonate) that are not harmful/toxic to the human body and is even used in some food supplements and medicines. Of course is small quantities.

Storage:

Transfer content to a jar or a bag. If you made more than you can use once, keep the rest in a glass jar with a lid in a cool and dry environment. Eggshells powder is “sensitive” to humidity.
